"Much better than I expected after I had read the tepid reviews for the early issues. The stories and art are sharp--not the blurry impressionistic that I dislike--but bold and energized. The stories so far have been interesting to read with characters that are more fleshed out and Rom isn't an overpowered tank but has to think his way through conflicts. Part of that is thanks to the rebooted and smarter wraiths, that put up a tougher challenge and gives the stories a distinct haunted conspiratorial edge. There's always a lot of grey area angst that goes on in Rom's world, so seeing him work through difficult decisions is part of the attraction, but he always sacrifices or rises above it. It's amazing how goofy the toy is versus how noble, adult, and interesting the comic is. Underrated comic so far, just like he was in the 1980s."

Rom Vol 2 Reinforcements Christos Gage Chris Ryall David Messina Paolo Villanelli 9781631409066 Books Reviews

  • First off, ROM is my all time favorite comic. It's the one comic I strived to buy every issue of with my alliowance. I had the toy and often wished for GI Joe sized Spaceknights and Wraith.
So, getting to read an all new tale set in modern times is fantastic. I've enjoyed the new backstory and interactions.
Here is where a stat is lost. Important details crucial to understanding the volume happen after volume 1 in another title. There have been a couple battles that shape relations I have no understanding of at this moment. In he old days, appearances in other titles were fun but not critical to the main story arc.
All in all I look forward to volume 3 but most likely will read missing story arcs on web recaps.
  • Rom is a good story. Needs more issues.
  • Much better than I expected after I had read the tepid reviews for the early issues. It's amazing how goofy the toy is versus how noble, adult, and interesting the comic is. Underrated comic so far, just like he was in the 1980s.
