somewhere for my soul to go weaves memoir, travel stories, and inspiration into one woman's journey to a legacy. Pasco uses journal entries and vignettes from her many trips to Chiapas, Mexico, to produce a narrative that is both humorous and sobering. Her account of the founding of Mujeres de Maiz Opportunity Foundation includes a heart-warming glimpse of the indigenous women and girls of a weaving/seamstress cooperative, their educational progress, and the obstacles they confront in their daily lives. Pasco's book showcases an adventurous spirit in a humanitarian endeavor but also depicts an older woman who is realistic about her own shortcomings in challenging situations.

"A friend at work lent me this book and I have to say I'm so grateful she did. It is a wonderful look at a life well lived. I found myself inspired by Judith's story and a renewed stirring of wanting to give back. I work in diagnostic imaging, an amazing field that can dramatically affect a patient's diagnosis and treatment. Judith has inspired me with her tales to research and get involved with programs that bring medical imaging to underserved international populations. Thank you for sharing your triumphs and tribulations, for your honesty and openness about your experiences.
I recommend this book to anyone who is looking not necessarily for a cause but for a reality check, for a reminder that we can always do more."

- Somewhere for my Soul to Go was a very inspirational story of a woman's journey to South America and came back to make a difference in the lives of the children and women of Chiapas, Mexico. Unlike Oprah, Judith Pasco lived among the people in their impoverished environment. This woman was brave and strong in the challenging fight for the equality of these people. It is written in a journal like fashion which is easy to read and keeps the reader turning the page. I really enjoyed the story and the humorous events that took place. The author is someone to be admired.
- Any traveler who has encountered the customs and unfamiliar ways of another country will quickly nod, smile and laugh out loud as the author finds herself in odd, sometimes frightful, but always very real circumstances of another culture.
This is a deeply personal, often funny journey of discovery. The writer, traveling in Central America, stumbles upon the travesty of repression of Mayan women in the highlands of Chiapas, Mexico. Appalled at the "triple disadvantage by birth" of racism, sexism and poverty, she finds a cause. Through trial and error, personal hardship and failure, the author creates a path for both herself and the young women living in rural Chiapas by providing some measure of opportunity where little exists. This is a wonderful account of one woman's journey which eventually led to the creation of a partnership foundation assisting in providing education opportunities for young Mayan women.
I thoroughly enjoyed this narrative. The writing is richly descriptive and the author is both honest in revealing her limitations and inspirational in describing how seemingly small efforts can make lifetime differences to others. As the author discovered, people who think one person can't make a difference are simply wrong.
Alan Morris - I have traveled many times to the "land of the Mayan" but Judith Pasco's book put a wonderful perspective on the problems AND one of the best solutions available to the indigenous women of this area. Written from the heart with humor, kindess and much knowledge, her book not only takes the reader on her own personal journey to "do something", but lights the way for anyone interested in giving them selves to a cause. Not always easy, but always interesting. This book opened my eyes, and highly recommend it. It is a great "gift book" for almost anyone.
