This title illustrates the complexity of a South American city founded in 1567 which forges a coherent identity with El Avila and the coastline, where different scales and architectural styles converge. This guide outlines the city’s history with reference to its most striking architecture dating from approximately 1600 up to the present day. Architecture and urban spaces found in ten zones throughout Caracas are delineated, as well as conceptions held by urban planning experts regarding future initiatives that could transform and enhance the city.

Caracas Architectural Guide Iván González Viso 9783869225791 Books Reviews
- A colorful, well-organized and informative addition to the growing library of architectural guides being published by DOM publishers. As this edition is in English, it's clear that various hands were involved in translating the work of multiple authors, so there's a bit of unevenness in the quality of the individual citations. It's also only fair to point out that this is a book about the architecture and urban design of the City and is not a typical guidebook so, from the narratives, it's apparent that some of the buildings, such as the private residences, are not accessible to the public. The photos are, for the most part, quite good however with the many hillside locations cited there could have been some interesting drone photos to enhance the presentations. I lived in Caracas for about 3 years (1978 to 1981) and visited frequently in a prior time period (1968 to 1971) and as an architect was able to experience the explosive expansion of this conurbation. This guide documents newerl buildings which are more contemporary than the many which I visited and knew about during my time there. Would be interesting to have a return visit one of these days.
- all good!
