- John Gall, best known for his dynamic and memorable graphic design work, has spent the last decade or so exploring his relationship to image making through an evolving series of collages, many of which are collected here. In short, unpretentious captions Gall explains how abstraction and handcraft have helped him connect with a sense of mystery in his work, unlocking a new design language for himself in the process. The collage work itself is elegant, occasionally whimsical, and strikingly beautiful -- taken as a whole the collection creates a powerful case for working in series by listening to one's intuition. I can't wait to begin re-reading it, which I suspect I will do many times.
