- This was a great book to introduce the concept of Halloween costumes and "Who is inside?" My toddler encountered a costumed child at the playground prior to Halloween and was very afraid of the mask. I bought this book for her to discuss Halloween and dress up, and it solves the problem! When trick-or-treaters started coming to the door, she was upset about giving away our candy (as opposed to keeping it for herself!), but not about the masked children ringing knocking on the door.
- If you need a Halloween cuteness fix, you will LOVE this little storybook by Mercer Mayer. I am guilty of buying children's books for myself. I often babysit, so I bring books like this with me to read stories to the kids. I have other books by Mercer Mayer. I like to have kids draw what they see from the books. Its so fun! We take a book like this for an art theme to create our own ideas, anything goes. The illustrations are adorable, nothing scary. This is an enjoyable book for all ages.
- My son LOVES this book. It's December 22 and he'd still rather read this before bed than any of his Christmas books. (Sorry, Grinch!) There are colorful pictures, big flaps, and just enough monster costumes to keep a 3 1/2 year-old on the edge of his seat.
- My daughter loved this book. We received it today and already read it a few times. In the evening before going to bed her first words are always "Let's read a story, how about Little Critter". Today, of course she wanted the new book and we played trick or treating too. This book does not offer a complicated story. It shows Little Critter going to a party where he meets all his friends who are dressed up in scary costumes. The book is really about fighting fears that children might have. Every time Little Critter gets scared, he sees who is behind the costume and his fears are eased. It is great for kids who are afraid of those scary costumes and might give them confidence that behind all scary stuff there is just a person. This book was very worth it, just like everything else by Mercer Mayer.
