"Dr. Steve Turley makes the argument that conservative Christianity is making a comeback in Western nations based on two demographic trends: conservative/fundamentalist Christians are having more children than liberal Christians and secularists, and some European nations have begun to restore the political relationship between Church and State.
Turley gleefully, disturbingly gloats that a return to conservative Christianity has led to a suppression of rights for homosexuals, xenophobic nationalism, closed borders, the collusion of Church and State. I don't understand why he is celebrating these things.
Is this really all we want Christianity to be about? A stance against homosexuality? Is the oppression of homosexuals and rejection of refugees really Christianity's great triumph? What about caring for the "least of these" and the "widows and orphans"? Moral redemption, personal responsibility, and loving one's neighbor? - In a new monograph, Dr. Steve Turley provides an antidote to the “sky is falling†commentary of so many conservatives and Christians who, drowning in a sea of negative headlines, miss broader cultural and political trends pointing to a revival of nationalism and traditional religion. Synthesizing the work of demographers, historians and a variety of social theorists, Turley presents a brief case that the detraditionalizing forces spawned by globalization, post-modernity and multiculturalism inherently create the conditions for a nationalist and traditionalist political and demographic backlash. That backlash is taking a populist form aimed squarely at the displacement of ruling elites.
Turley is, in my opinion, sometimes too upbeat in his assessment and we must consider how to rebuild institutions that are rotting. Moreover, there is a danger that in the absence of genuine repentance our culture and politics drift in directions offering false promises and protection from the wreckage wrought by globaliztation. Much work also remains to be done and a larger theoretical work connecting dots remains to be written. But Turley has provided a concise and readable introduction that deserves a broad readership.
If you are apt to fall into despair, read this book from Dr. Turley. Take the White Pill. - Dr. Turley lays out the demographic trends that are driving the populist national movements occurring across the West. It's a fun book for people interested in how birth rate differentials among different political groups drive the political and cultural health of a nation.
- Through a slow process of secularization we now have the globalists pulling down all of humanity to the lowest base of existence where most are happy to focus on entertainment and all of life is expected to be fun. It has to feel good and be easy. Technology makes this happen and there is no reason to look anywhere else nor look any further or deeper. In fact thinking deeper, which means thinking critically, is discouraged or forbidden. Where are wisdom and virtue?
Because of my Christian upbringing, I felt instinctively that the globalists are on the wrong track, but now I understand that it is because of their neglect of the sacred. In his new book "The Return of Christendom", Dr. Turley very aptly and decisively explains this great delusion of "one size (and the most debased size) fits all" heaped on humanity by the globalists and why the sacred and its function are so important in a human society.
It has been the Christian traditions in the West that have helped man to rise from the mysterious to the sacred and because of it brought forth great men and women of accomplishments, beautiful great art, literature of deep critical thinking, uplifting poetry, absolutely wonderful music and many other creations of a spiritually and morally elevated human spirit. Wisdom and virtue were everywhere.
It is only in these areas of the elevated sacred that man is able to have inclusivity with all humanity. Below the sacred is chaos and there is no getting along. It mostly leads to strife and all kinds of negativity, a mediocre life, to great unhappiness and depression.
This chaos can be managed, starting with strong family ties, continuing to various stages of bonds of social order, to the bonds of borders of a country that one calls home.
But managing chaos is only the beginning. To get to greatness one has to lift oneself beyond chaos up to heaven, into the unknown, to the spiritual, to the religious, the mysterious, in short to the sacred.
So, I'm glad that Dr. Turley reports that Christendom is rising all over the world and with it the experience of the sacred. He is hopeful and so am I.
Read this here book "The Return of Christendom" by Dr. Stephen R. Turley and you may also become hopeful. - I have watched and subscribed to Dr. Turley's YouTube channel. I now have two of his books. I recommend his books and specifically this book provides us with a general overview of the rise of Christian beliefs, which you would never know by watching and listening to the narrow point of view presented by the vast majority of media today.
