The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf Naked Werewolf Series Molly Harper Books Reviews
- Against tradition, but voted in when her brother walked away from the position and the fill-in turned out to have an ulterior motive, Maggie is the first female alpha of her werewolf pack in Alaska. She’s tough and scrappy, but it hides a vulnerable side as she deals with everything on her shoulders and her pack’s expectations that she mates with another werewolf to continue their dwindling species. She’s immediately attracted to Dr Nick Thatcher, a researcher needing to prove that myth and the supernatural exist.
I’d picked this up after reading How to Flirt With a Naked Werewolf and an ARC of How to Run With a Naked Werewolf. Definitely a light enjoyable read with a quite a bit of humor, it also has a mystery of sorts as things keep happening and the who and why isn’t as obvious as you’d imagine. It’s also the only one of the three books to be told from the werewolf’s point of view. I have to admit, though, that of the 3 books, while I enjoyed this one, I liked the other 2 a little more.
And of all of the guys we meet within these three books, I’ve got to say that I think I might like Nick the best. Introduced to us a sort of nerd, he proves just why he’d be such a great match for Maggie.
These 3 books made an enjoyable mini-vacation from reality. - I don't know how Molly Harper manages to pack so much sweet into her novels that are so full of sassy, smart-a** characters, but she manages it. I read the Naked Werewolf series out of order (#1, then, #3, and then #2), and it worked out fine, although I think reading #1 first might be really important.
In this one, we don't get to know the main male character as well as we do in the other two books, but it kind of works because it's more about the evolution of Maggie, which includes her falling for Nick, than it is about the romance itself. It works. I like that the three books fit together so well while still ACTUALLY being stand-alone novels. - Book 2 of the Naked werewolf series features Cooper's sister Maggie in her new job as Alpha trying to find an appropriate werewolf mate who isn't too inbred or closely related to herself. Unfortunately a completely appealing but inapprpriate human guy keeps crossing her path. This is another really funny Molly Harper book. I laughed out loud several times throughout. The hero is charming and peristent. No matter how the heroine tries to push him away he smilingly keeps coming. "I want you Maggie. But if he's what you want, I'm not going to stand in the way." Maggie shoves past and he grabs her arm "What are you doing? You said you wouldn't stand in the way." "Clearly, I was bluffing!" Nick exclaimed. "And you called me on it, so good for you." The heroine is a snarky, strong, brave, self-sacrificing alpha who wants what is best for her pack. Unfortunately she is reckless has terrible instincts. She isn't up to the job of Alpha. Luckily by the end she gets the help she needs in an unexpected way. This romance is fun, funny and steamy. We get to see more of Cooper, Mo, their cub and Sampson.
- It has an unlikeable main character but still wonderfully written.
A pack leader of a werewolf clan meets a young sexy anthropologist as well as dealing with a mysterious and deadly threat to her pack.
This is a slice of life book more than anything else and the author excels once again in bringing a humorous and fun take to the modern supernatural genre. You read as the main struggles with her witty inner voice and her own perceptions when something, or to be more precise, someone from the outside invades her stable life.
Let me begin by saying that I didn't read the first book but I am a fan of the writer's other series (nice girls). Her voice is once again the highlight of this book. The writer has great skill, there's no question about that, in crafting an entertaining read.
That being said the author's usual voice seems a bit out of place here. The main character makes several pop culture references that go against what the main would/could possibly like. Granted I am stereotyping her, and she could conceivably be more well rounded than I give her credit for, still it seems so out of character, so forced.
Another problem is with the main herself. She's kind of annoying. She's the kind of person I would avoid because her personality is just too strong, an un-relatable personality. She is pushy and more than a little over opinionated. In all honesty she's the kind of girl who would have bullied me as a kid.
Her love interest is just as difficult to feel connected to. He's much too perfect, too smart and sexy. And for no reason whatsoever he falls for this woman he just met. I can understand her falling in love with him, even if it wasn't a chemical thing that was triggered by her werewolf sense of smell and instincts. He's a nice guy.
In spite of this its still a good read because of the author's skill. Even without reading the first book of the series I was able to sort of follow along pretty easily. Honestly speaking though, I wouldn't suggest starting with this one if you want to become a fan of Molly Harper's work.
3 stars. A story with terrible characters written beautifully. - I thought this book was very refreshing. I read a lot of werewolf stories and hate that I have to weed out the ones that have the female main characters rather dumb and the male main character basically driven for one thing only. They have no story line. This was a really a well written book It made me laugh out loud and kept the story going through great character development. I ended up reading all three books in the series in a week and have them on my favorites list. The only down side is that I read on the author's website that she wasn't going to write another story with this series.
I don't want to give the story away but you need to read How to Flirt With a Naked Werewolf first. It helps you know more of the story line that is between Maggie, an alpha werewolf, and Nick, the human whom she falls for (despite her best efforts). I wish there were more stories like this out there! Really enjoyed this book.
